Charlotte de Witte brings to us an eerie yet tantalizing mix of textures

For her sixth release on her KNTXT label, Charlotte de Witte brings to us hymn-inspired, fast paced techno. The four-track EP Return to Nowhere is an eerie yet tantalizing mix of textures.

We get de Witte’s characteristic hard sound, infused with mystic, aerial vocals. The blend of these apparently contradictory elements creates a vigorous yet harmonious atmosphere, where the chants flow and the kicks pulsate. Just as in her Selected EP, Charlotte give us three no-nonsense techno tracks (‘Return to Nowhere, ‘Ensemble’, ‘Sgadi Li Mi’), accompanied by a lighter, more melodic last track (‘What’s In The Past’). In it, she gets the chance to showcase more of the original material that inspired this EP: age old traditional chants.

Charlotte says: “I made the EP before the current COVID-19 crisis. After being inspired by recordings of age-old traditional chants. So, I never intended it to be a “Corona record”. However, it did grow on me during this period of isolation.”

This long-awaited release further cements Charlotte’s reputation as a techno powerhouse and brings some fresh sounds to her newly-founded label.

Obtenemos el sonido duro característico de De Witte, infundido con voces místicas y aéreas. La combinación de estos elementos aparentemente contradictorios crea una atmósfera vigorosa pero armoniosa, donde fluyen los cantos y los kicks vibran. Charlotte dice: “Hice el EP antes de la actual crisis COVID-19. Después de inspirarse en grabaciones de cantos tradicionales de antaño. Entonces, nunca tuve la intención de que fuera un “disco de Corona”. Sin embargo, creció en mí durante este período de aislamiento”.

Este lanzamiento tan esperado consolida aún más la reputación de Charlotte como una potencia techno y aporta algunos sonidos frescos a su sello recién fundado.
